Luca Maroni, the Italian wine expert, is hosting an informal tasting today at Altacucina Society’s Epicurean Center in Manhattan. The tasting is for the trade and press from 3pm to 6pm.

Maroni will discuss his views on a series of new fruit forward wines which he sees as the driving spirit of a renewed push to gain market share by Italian producers. These wines are highly drinkable, easy to pair and fit well with an international palate.
“The fruit is what really counts, the purity of the wine, its uniqueness and its price tag,” Maroni said in a recent article. He sees increasing opportunities for American importers and distributors that are willing to concentrate more efforts on the new Italian fruit-wines. “This is the moment for the American market to invest in the future; all that is needed is to trust the new fruit-based Italian wine,” he added.
Maroni is very well known both for his wine guides and his large wine event held each year in Rome in November. This year, Sensofwine, will be held on November 21-22 at the Auditorium, Parco della Musica, in Rome. The event will have 1000 wines from 300 producers. In the past, the event has always been very well attended.
Maroni held his first Sensofwine New York in February of this year. That event, held at Cipriani 42, was a huge success with over 1000 people in attendance. Thanks to the success of the 2009 event, Maroni will be back with Sensofwine 2010, slated for February 3 at Cipriani Wall Street.
Maroni is also credited with creating an entirely new tasting method based on three parameters. According to his method, you can find number values for all wines which are comparable. Maroni doesn’t believe that a 100 point wine exists and he has never rated a wine higher than 99.
